A donation box for the hair drive, and the club on the air

A drop-off box for Love Is In The Hair now stands at the Women's Health Center of The Medical City Clark, and the club walked through the set-up for next week's forum at Robinsons Balibago.

DWRW 95.1 FM has invited the club onto its public-affairs programme Talakayan Ngayon on Tuesday, 20 October at 9:30 AM, to talk about the forum and the month's work.

Another free screening day — and the club hosts Cluster 3B

Certificates presented at the Beyond the Ribbon forum

With The Medical City Clark and the Zonta Club of Pampanga, the club held another free breast screening at The Medical City Clark in the Clark Freeport Zone, part of the hospital's Beyond the Ribbon programme for Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Women from Barangay Balibago and Barangay Pulung Maragul were examined free of charge.

That evening the club hosted the Cluster 3B monthly meeting of Rotary International District 3790 at Retro 252.

“Agapan Natin”: a free breast cancer forum and screening on 20 October

On Tuesday, 20 October, from 10:00 AM to 1:00 PM on the 3rd Floor of Robinsons Balibago, the club opens a free public forum on breast cancer with the specialists of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Cancer Center, alongside free breast screening and checkup on the day.

Anyone who qualifies can also sign up for free breast, liver, lung and colon cancer screening, carried out later at the hospital by schedule — on the day the medical team only takes each person's details. There is help on the spot to register for PhilHealth YAKAP, which gives members free primary care, consultations, tests and essential medicines; no pre-registration is needed.

Admission is free, and anyone already diagnosed is asked to bring their previous medical records and test results.

Love Is In The Hair: a haircut, and a wig for someone who needs one

From 15 October to 15 November the club is collecting donated hair to be made into free wigs for cancer patients. Partner salons are giving donors a free or discounted haircut, and finished wigs are welcome too. Message us for the minimum length and where to drop off.

It closes the club's Breast Cancer Awareness Month programme, which opened on 8 October with a lay forum, free screening and a simultaneous lighting in pink.

“Beyond the Ribbon” opens our Breast Cancer Awareness Month

The Beyond the Ribbon lay forum at The Medical City Clark

The club's October programme with The Medical City Clark opened on Thursday, 8 October with a lay forum, free breast screening and a simultaneous lighting in pink. Certificates of appreciation went to the five doctors who gave their time to the screening.

Free screening afternoons continue through the month, a public forum follows on 20 October, and the month closes with a hair-donation drive for wigs for cancer patients.

Youth service

Our first Rotaractors elect their charter officers

The charter officers of the Rotaract Club of Balibago were elected on 6 October. Recruitment stays open until 28 October, when the first Rotaractors are inducted and the club is chartered in front of the District Governor; the next set joins at The Last Mile Festival in March.

Club

The board is restructured for the rest of the year

The club adopted a board built around nine directorships. Member recruitment, onboarding and development merge into a single Membership portfolio; global grants move under International Service; the environment programme moves to Community Service, where the rest of the service register sits; and a Fundraising directorship is created.

The current officers and directors are on the Leadership page.

Kuya Rey on why a child's love of reading begins at the daycare

At its September business meeting the club welcomed storyteller, trainer and publisher Rey Bufi — “Kuya Rey” — founder of Bahaginan Publishing House, whose Lakbay-Kuwentuhan caravan brings storytelling and books to communities across the country. In Rotary's Basic Education and Literacy Month he spoke on educating children through books and daycare centres.

The same meeting adopted the club's Child and Youth Protection Policy and designated a Child Protection Officer — nine of the club's thirteen projects this quarter involve children.

Education

CARE Without Barriers: Cluster 3B serves together at Sta. Teresita

Members joined CARE Without Barriers, the Basic Education Collaboration Project of Cluster 3B, led by the Rotary Club of Angeles Midtown, at Sta. Teresita Elementary School in Angeles City. Toys and Montessori learning materials were turned over to the school's learners with special needs.

Projects like this show what Rotary clubs can do together: a wider reach, and more children served.

Peacebuilding

Bringing justice closer to home

The club ran a Katarungang Pambarangay and Legal Aid Activity with the Integrated Bar of the Philippines Pampanga Chapter and the Angeles City Lawyers League. Three lawyers lectured on the jurisdiction and procedure of the Katarungang Pambarangay and on small claims, and ran a mock conciliation hearing for members of the Lupong Tagapamayapa.

Around seventeen volunteer lawyers from across Pampanga then gave free consultations and notarial services. About a hundred residents and barangay officials took part.

Disaster response

Relief operations across Pampanga

One relief operation in three deployments: Angeles City on 2 September, the City of San Fernando on 7 September, and San Simon on 11 September, the last carried out together with the clubs of Cluster 3B. Donations were received at the Beautéderm Building in Barangay Sto. Domingo throughout September.

Livelihood

Eight churros kits, and a trade to go with them

The club joined the churros-making livelihood session of the Angeles City Public Employment Service Office and TESDA, in partnership with the Zonta Club of Pampanga, turning over eight churros livelihood starter kits and about twenty sets of lotion and soap to each sector present.

Projects

Where our seven projects stand

The President's update to members, in brief. Livelihood: churros starter packs are in procurement — each lets a family serve about a hundred servings to start a business — and a partner university's college of business will help run a needs assessment and market study in Balibago this September–October. Disease prevention: hospital partners are being finalised for medical missions, and a nursing college will help measure children and families. Education & literacy: we met a children's publisher and a literacy organisation again on redesigning the daycare centers so children form reading habits early, and invited volunteer teachers from partner universities. Rotaract: fifteen or more students at one university already; meetings set with student-affairs offices at three more campuses. Book Drive: 500 books collected so far; the drive now runs all year to May 2027, with the first donation to the daycare center this September. Katarungan Caravan: February 2027, replicating the Magalang mission. Relief operations: Angeles City last week, the City of San Fernando on 7 September.

Book Drive

500 books and counting

The Book Drive has passed 500 children's books collected for the daycare library — and there is no ceiling. Collection runs all year until May 2027, and the first books reach the daycare center this September. Donation boxes will go up around Pampanga in the coming weeks. If you have children's books in good condition, see how to give on our Partner & Give page.

Relief

Relief operations in Angeles City and Porac

Members packing relief goods into bags

In the last week of August, members joined Immediate Past President Rhea Anicoche Tan in relief operations in Angeles City, and repacked relief goods in Porac on 28 August. On 7 September the club serves in the City of San Fernando alongside youth groups.

Club

The club is now a registered corporation

Balibago Community of Rotarians Inc. was registered with the Securities and Exchange Commission on 27 August 2026. Agreements with partners, donations and the assets our programme leaves behind are now held by a proper legal entity.

Medical & Dental Mission in Barangay Capaya

Members holding the Medical and Dental Mission banner at the covered court

On 22 August the club held a Medical and Dental Mission themed Bringing Health, Hope, and Healing to Our Community at Barangay Capaya, Angeles City, in partnership with the Rotary Club of Clarkfield, the Zonta Club of Pampanga, a government hospital's pathology, laboratory and blood-services department, and two community organisations. Residents received free check-ups and medicine; the dental team gave check-ups, extractions, fillings and oral-care education; and the club donated 300 pairs of eyeglasses and 300 hygiene kits. Our thanks to the volunteer doctors and dentists, and to Past President Rhoda Timaio, who spearheaded the mission.

Club

The Grand Day is 28 October

The club's Induction & Turnover for Rotary Year 2026–27 will be held on Wednesday, 28 October 2026, combined with the Official Visit of District Governor Ronald Dy. Every member, no exceptions.

Membership

Mixer & Rotarization for our new members

Members and new members at the Mixer and Rotarization

New members were welcomed at a Mixer and Rotarization at the Beautéderm headquarters on 15 August: an introduction to Rotary International, The Four-Way Test, the seven areas of focus, Rotary by the numbers, the club's history and milestones, Rotary's structure, The Rotary Foundation and the polio-eradication legacy — followed by a round of Human Bingo to get to know one another. A week earlier, on 8 August, members traded the meeting table for the court with a pickleball fellowship in Angeles City.

July: the year opens across the district

Plaque of Recognition naming the Rotary Club of Balibago a Sister Club of the Rotary Club of Angeles Midtown

The club's first monthly business meeting of the year was held on 31 July at the Beautéderm headquarters, setting the projects and goals for Rotary Year 2026–27. Earlier in the month members attended the induction of District Governor Ronald S. Dy and the Rotary Club of San Fernando La Union on 7 July in the City of San Fernando, La Union, and the inductions of the Rotary Club of Angeles Kuliat and the Rotary Club of Mabalacat Clark on 12 July. On 23 July, at the 26th Induction and Turnover of the Rotary Club of Angeles Midtown, the Rotary Club of Balibago was honoured as a Sister Club and recognised as a dedicated partner in service.

Health

The year begins with a blood donation drive

Members with the club banner at the blood donation drive

On 3 July, three days into the Rotary year, the club held a blood donation drive at Barangay Balibago Hall, organised by Past President Rhoda Timaio — a member of both the club and the Zonta Club of Pampanga — with a government hospital's blood-services team. Interviewed at the drive, President Jeriko Bais spoke about why blood donation matters and how every donor becomes a modern-day hero.
